Marginal is developed by Andrew Michael, based in Hertfordshire, UK. Contact: hello@marginalcodex.com.
Account information. Email address and password (or Apple sign-in identity) when you create a codex. We use this to secure your account and sync your record across devices.
Your codex data. The habits, attributes, vows, and history you log — this is the core record the app exists to keep. It is private to you; other users see only what you explicitly share (a duel opponent sees your handle and vow-held count; nobody sees your full history).
Measures. If you choose to track weight, lifts, or other physical measurements, these are stored against your account. This data is optional, self-reported, and never required to use the app.
Device push token. If you enable notifications ("The Watch"), we store a device identifier so we can send the one daily warning you opted into. You can disable this at any time in your device settings; disabling deletes the stored token.
Usage analytics. We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused service that does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites. It tells us in aggregate how the app is used — it cannot identify you individually.
We do not access your contacts, photos, location, or any data from other apps. We do not use advertising trackers. We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
Supabase (database and authentication hosting) and Firebase (push notification delivery) process data on our behalf, solely to provide the service. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
Apple, if you choose to sign in with it, handles your authentication according to its own privacy policy — we receive only your email and name, not your Apple ID password or other account details.
If you're in the UK or EU, you have rights under GDPR/UK GDPR including access, correction, deletion, and portability of your data.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your codex data is permanently removed within 30 days.
Marginal is not directed at, or intended for use by, anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
If this policy changes materially, we'll notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
